A number of studies have assessed the prevalence of emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Navigating through the many naturally occurring challenges of childhood and puberty while facing the extra burden of living with a chronic disease can increase the risk of experiencing psychological difficulties.
